The latest multiplayer beta of Halo Infinite lives, and has been for several days now.
And while beta only offers a little sense of what will be available in online shooters after being released later this year, curious dataminers and fans have dig into game files and have found a little. One of the unexpected discoveries: Hello Infinite is filled with memes.
Redditor Marcopolo444 shares many links to images and content that has been ripped from the ongoing Xbox and Beta PC test. Some of these things are cool, but not too surprising. For example, Dataminers found several vehicles that are currently not available in technology preview, including visually updated versions of high flying banshees and classical scorpion tanks. Also found buried in a file is a ton of emblems, the main game of Halo from the past. But especially, some of these symbols (along with some weapons ornaments) seemed to be directly inspired by internet memes. For some reason.
There is an alien shadow with a bowler hat and a big eye and happy sitting on the fire that seems to be a direct reference to the cartoon “this is fine”. I also saw recreation from ancient internet memes featuring men who talked about aliens all the time in the historical channel, and the classic version of “Classic Brent Rambo” GIF. Also, cartoon recreation from famous rock-with-a-fanny-pack images. And the charm of weapons that appear directly quotes 4chan posts that become semi-popular memes.
Now, to be fair to Halo and 343, leaked files also contain a lot of content and non-meme-related images. But Boy Howdy, there are more memes here than I expected. I did not immediately oppose Meme popping up in the game; However, they are part of pop culture and the way we communicate with each other online. However, something about these images felt very forced and not in place. Hello is allowed to be strange, but this feels rather sad.
On the other hand, there are a lot of armor and vehicles that were withdrawn by people in beta files, including what appeared to be a Christmas-related equipment to make your Spartan look more festive.
Something to remember when viewing all datasined content is that some of these can be changed or removed before the release of the game. Just because these files found in the latest beta does not mean they are guaranteed to roam. And of course, the possibility of 343 will add hello between now and the game launch in December.
There are some silly bugs and server problems, not to mention the delay, but so far (even in the initial state, which is not finished), Halo Infinite seems to be in good condition. Now we are waiting to see if 343 and Halo can attach the landing on December 8 when arriving at the Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, and PC.
