Is theoretical knowledge sufficient for managers today?

I think the theoretical knowledge can not replace the practical experience in any sense. practical experience and expertise are beyond the theories.

Theoretical Knowledge is the foundation where you build your practical experience. Both are interlinked and necessary for your advancement and growth. Managerial skills cannot be developed only by book knowledge. It will guide you handling various situations. But in most cases than not, your approach, your emotions, and many other factor will play an important role while on the job. So in my opinion both theory and practice is important in whatever field you are working.

Theoretical knowledge alone doesn’t work. It’s just a base. We need practical knowledge so that we can correlate with the theory we have studied.

No theoretical knowledge along with practical knowledge will be very helpful. They are interconnected. Practically it is possible only with theoretically knowledge. So both are must.

Managers have to deal with so many thing today. Theoretical knowledge can be their foundation so that they pass the interview and get a job but practical things they do make them finer day by day.

According to me, theoretical knowledge is not enough to be a successful manager. Basic and specialized training is essential. At the same time, unless you do your ground work and get good work experience on handling different situations, you can never be a good manager. Not everything is taught in colleges. Similarly, not everything goes by book. A manager should be aware of the consequences of his actions and be responsible for his junior colleagues.

Theoretical knowledge gives the managers an edge over others in handling day to day issues. To get placed in a reputed organization freshers from B-Schools need to gain some hands on experience.

To get into any company, theoretical knowledge is very important. Especially for freshers, they ask questions based upon Theory only. So after that gradually, we gain experience and ther comes the practical knowledge. So both are must.

Theoretical knowledge will surely assist but practical is necessary for managers.
